Dr Fatma Said is an applied linguist and developmental researcher specialising in child bilingualism in Arabic and multilingual contexts, as well as family language policy. Her work examines how lexical, pragmatic, reading, and biliteracy skills develop across Arabic and in multilingual and biliterate environments.
Drawing on linguistics, sociolinguistics, psychology, and cognitive science, she explores how linguistic input, family routines and ideologies, home literacy practices, and educational settings influence children’s language outcomes. Her work contributes to research on multilingual acquisition and literacy, diglossia, and cross-linguistic influence. She also examines PhD research internationally, trains parents and teachers, and provides consultancy on language policy and educational practice.
